“From the wood industry’s point of view, the “bioeconomy” offers a great opportunity to promote the knowledge-based production and use of renewable resources in order to provide products, processes and services in all economic sectors within the framework of a sustainable economic system. Thus, it has the great potential to produce novel ecological solutions. To achieve this, a large network like Bioeconomy Austria is essential to promote discourse and mutual exchange.
The goal of the bioeconomy is the gradual replacement of finite, fossil raw materials with biogenic and thus renewable resources. Wood is one of the most important renewable raw materials that provides suitable resources for this change. Thus, the wood industry can also make a significant contribution to the initiatives within the framework of the bioeconomy. In traditional uses such as timber construction, timber building products or furniture production, product and process innovations continuously ensure that new requirements are met. Likewise, the development of completely new products and processes can expand the areas of application for wood.” – Dieter Lechner, Fachverband der Holzindustrie Österreich
