The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna (BOKU) covers all areas of the bioeconomy and sees this as a unique selling point European-wide. BOKU has focused on the bioeconomy: More than eighty percent of the institutes do research in the field of bioeconomy and also offer training in this field. The focus has traditionally grown. The university has always covered science, technology and social sciences. In order to coordinate the comprehensive activities within the university, to promote internal and external cooperation and collaboration as well as communication, the Centre for Bioeconomy was set up in May 2019. The aim of the Centre is to initiate and support bioeconomy-relevant activities in the field of research, education and innovation.
The Center for Bioeconomy accompanies Bioeconomy Austria with scientific expertise in the conception and development of the Austrian bioeconomy. As a consortium partner and central network node, it links actors of knowledge, change and innovation, technology, development and application. It ensures knowledge building and dissemination within the network, supports knowledge transfer beyond, and translates international development trends into Austrian bioeconomy.
