The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission has released the BioRegEU Pilot Dataset. This dataset provides estimates of employment and value added in bioeconomy sectors for EU NUTS2 regions. The main purpose of the dataset is to fill the gap in data on the socioeconomic contribution of the bioeconomy at the subnational level. This is against the backdrop of policy efforts to promote the bioeconomy in the EU Member States, as evidenced by the conclusions adopted in April 2023 on the opportunities of the bioeconomy in light of current challenges.
The analysis of indicators in the BioRegEU dataset offers insights into the territorial distribution of bio-based activities at the EU level. However, it is considered preliminary and requires further refinement. The authors of the BioRegEU pilot dataset invite users and stakeholders to provide feedback on the accuracy of the estimates and to address potential deviations from reality and possible improvements in data sources or methodologies.
For Austria, this dataset provides a valuable basis for better understanding the development and contribution of the bioeconomy at the regional level. Try it out now!
